In June 2024, the United Nations declared 2025 to be the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, in celebration of the 100th anniversary since the formalization of modern quantum theory. Cities around the world had events to promote and engage with quantum technology and raise global awareness of how quantum will benefit all areas of life. As a part of this celebration, April 14th has been designated as World Quantum Day each year.
April 14th was chosen as a reference to 4.14, the first three rounded digits of Planck’s constant, which is a fundamental constant in quantum physics. It is used to define the standard kilogram as well as featuring in the quantum uncertainty principle that creates so many of the mysterious and “spooky” effects of quantum physics. World Quantum Day is a way to keep the momentum of the International Year of Quantum and continue promoting quantum science into the future.

QCi is celebrating World Quantum Day by heading down to Washington, DC, where the Quantum Economic Development Consortium (QED-C) is holding their Quantum Summit, bringing together government, industry, academic, and investment stakeholders in a community of quantum stakeholders. There, they will meet to align priorities and learn from each other so that they can work to bring quantum insight to life. QCi’s COO, Dr. Milan Begliarbekov, has been invited to attend an industry roundtable as part of this Summit.
This group will have the opportunity to sit down with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Under Secretary for Science, Dr. Dario Gil and a select group of industry leaders to discuss quantum priorities and the future. It represents an opportunity for QCi to have direct exchange with the DOE and other industry leaders as they share their insights into the state of the quantum ecosystem.
As a member of the QED-C, QCi is excited to engage with this diverse group of innovators in the quantum sphere and to provide insight into our own roadmap to put quantum into the hands of a billion people. The QED-C was founded in 2019 as part of the National Quantum Initiative and aims to bring together the quantum community across industries and sectors to promote quantum sciences and technology and create the connections necessary to bring this exciting technology into the future.
